Chapelle De La Salle

It stands out as the first thing that one remembers approaching from far, as entering the narrow streets of the neighborhood on the school’s first day, as if it was specifically designed to be a landmark, it’s imposing mass strikes, leaving a profound impression.

Coming from the outside, the often congested, chaotic and loud, streets of Daher, one enters a spiace where the crowdedness disappears, the circulation becomes easy and a sense of tranquility prevails. The column-less house of worship creates an open and serene atmosphere. Colorful, thanks to the stained glass that changes the light every minute with the trajectory of the sun.

Curious about the unique stained glass, only one side of the chapel has familiar figures: Christ, Mary, St Mark the evangelist and St. Jean-Baptist De La Salle, As for the other three sides, voids are covered with iconographies, their meanings left unexplained throughout thirteen years of school: stars, crescent moons, houses, a heart, a sword, fleur-de-lis, and ivory towers. The majority of spaces are filled with abstract motifs that always gave the impression of an unfinished masterpiece.

At the mezzanine level, rests an Organ. despite attending countless masses, choir rehearsals and celebrations as students, the organ remained silent. Stories hinted that it had stoped singing years ago and requires a significant budget to revive it.

After years of graduating, curiosity and admiration remained the same.

In 2020 began a journey of revisiting the chapel with a more mature, evaluative and analytical eyes.
